Elsternwick is an older suburb of Melbourne’s (Australia) inner south east which is located 9 km from the CBD , Victoria , Australia . The local government is Glen Eira , it is in the parish of Prahran within the County of Bourke.
Major road boundaries are Nepean Highway, Kooyong and Glen Eira Roads and Hotham Street.
Elsternwick took its name from the largest property in the district, Elster . Wick was added after the anglo saxon suffix wick meaning village.
Elsternwick village was surveyed in 1856, and Elsternwick Post Office opened on 22 June 1860.
In 1861 a railway line, operated by the Melbourne and Hobson’s Bay United Railway Company, was built from Melbourne to Brighton, via Elsternwick.
Whilst not strictly located in the suburb Elsternwick Park ,Elsternwick Park Golf Club , Elsternwick Park Bowling Club ,

Elsternwick Primary School and Elsternwick Hotel all include Elsternwick in their title even though they are located in either neighbouring Elwood or Brighton.
Conversely the Caulfield RSL is located at 3 St Georges Rd Elsternwick.
